Our Rosewood Show Team attends numerous local, provincial and national-level competitions annually. For those who own or lease, this is a great way to challenge your skills!
Located in the beautiful Southlands community - just minutes from downtown Vancouver, British Columbia - you'll find Rosewood's Riding School nestled among sprawling estates and stables. Referred to as Vancouver's 'hidden gem', Southlands is easily accessible by car, bus or bike - making our Riding School program popular for busy Vancouver families and professionals who are too busy to make the trek to Delta or Langley to participate in equestrian sport.
Our school facility includes two well-lit outdoor sand riding arenas, perfectly sized for beginner through intermediate riders. Our stable houses more than a dozen lesson horses and ponies and includes a spacious lounge area, comfortable washroom facilities, and barn laundry. There is ample roadside parking along 53rd Avenue adjacent to the stables.
At Rosewood, we know well-rounded riders can demonstrate competence in the saddle AND in the stable. Our Riding School program is based on five-levels of achievement - each building riding and stable management skills with the goal of preparing riders for the next level of riding with our Lease/Show Program.
Most lessons take place in the riding arenas, but on some days the weather may require the lesson format to be modified. If the sand footing in the arena is too wet or is frozen, a road or trail ride - or a session in the stables focusing on horse care and stable management - may be in order.
Upon completion of Rosewood's Riding School Level 5, riders will have the requisite skills and knowledge to graduate into our Lease/Show Program. Riders may also be offered the opportunity - upon graduation - to assisting with our School Program and stable management to offset their riding-related costs.
In preparation for your first lesson, please ensure you have the following:
Starting May 2021, we have moved to monthly pre-payment for ALL lesson packages. This aids in scheduling our horses, ponies and instructors, and allows us to ensure we have a space for you or your child each week.
For first-time Rosewood clients, we offer a four (4) lesson package - one lesson per week. This is a great way for adult riders to determine if our School Program is a good 'fit' and for parents to gauge their child's interest in the sport. Each lesson is 30-minutes in duration. This is a $390 value and offered only once per rider.
This is a great way for riders to learn with others of the same skill level. Maximum of three (3) riders per group. Each lesson is 45-minutes in duration.
Want to ride more? Two lessons per week at $650/month or three per week at $975/month
For riders who prefer to lesson solo, private sessions afford this opportunity. Each one-on-one lesson is 30-minutes in duration.
Want to ride more? Two lessons per week at $780/month or three per week $1,170/month
For those who wish to ride fewer than once a week or wish to book a one-time ride, this group lesson fee is applied.
For those who wish to ride fewer than once a week or wish to book a one-time ride, this private lesson fee is applied.
Depending on a rider's skill level and desire, taking lessons with Tanya at Southlands Riding Club - located just a few blocks from our riding school facility - may be an option. The Riding Club offers a large number of riding spaces for lessons across the 16-acre facility, including:
For riders who wish to take their riding to the next level, lessons at the Club provide access to larger riding spaces and jumping courses. And covered riding spaces mean that riders are able to continue training without interruption year-round regardless of the weather.
A Club membership is mandatory and is an additional cost not covered as part of your riding lesson fees. The Club offers a variety of membership options including 3-month and 6-month trials, and everything from one-day-a-week options to full-privilege memberships.
For graduates of our Riding School Program, leasing or purchasing a horse or pony able to support their ongoing development is generally the next step. Leasing offers many benefits including the opportunity to participate in lessons at Southlands Riding Club (just minutes from the stables) and the opportunity to participate in shows and clinics.
For those wishing to take lessons at the Club, Tanya offers 30-minute (private) to 45-minute (group) sessions at a cost of $65.00 including GST.
