At Rosewood Hunters & Jumpers, we offer lesson programs for all levels, from first-time-in-the-saddle riders to seasoned show competitors. Tanya and her team of skilled and knowledgeable instructors create a customized lesson and training program suited to each rider's age, experience and goals.
Located in the beautiful Southlands, Vancouver - we are nestled among sprawling estates and stables. Easily accessible by car, bus or bike, our Riding School program is popular for busy Vancouver families and professionals who wish to participate in equestrian sport without driving outside of the city.
Our school facility includes two well-lit outdoor sand riding arenas, perfectly sized for beginner through intermediate riders. Our stable houses more than a dozen lesson horses and ponies and includes a spacious lounge area, comfortable washroom facilities, and barn laundry area.
Most lessons take place in the riding arenas, but If the sand footing in the arena is too wet or is frozen, we offer a road or trail ride or a session in the stables focusing on horse care and stable management.
We require students to participate in weekly lessons to ensure consistency and progress throughout the riding season. This structure allows us to provide each rider with a regular time slot, better match students with suitable horses or ponies, and ensure continuity with our instructional team. Occasional drop-in lessons may be available at a separate rate, based on scheduling and availability.
Horsemanship Is Part of the Program
At Rosewood, we believe that learning to ride includes more than just time in the saddle. All students are required to groom and tack up their own horses as part of each lesson. This hands-on experience is a key component of our curriculum, helping riders develop confidence, responsibility, and a deeper connection with the horse.
Our instructors provide guidance and support as needed, especially for newer riders, to ensure a safe and educational experience at every level.
For first-time Rosewood clients, we offer a four-lesson package—one lesson per week—at a discounted rate. This introductory package is a great way for new riders to experience our School Program and for parents to assess their child’s interest in horseback riding. Each lesson is 45 minutes in duration and includes 15 minutes of supervised grooming and tacking up, followed by 30 minutes of mounted instruction (times may vary dependent on experience).
This package is valued at $400 and is offered only once per rider.
Group Lessons are a great way to get more time in the saddle with class sizes ranging from 2 - 3 students. Use of school pony/horse and equipment is included. Must be registered in our monthly program.
30-minute lesson with one rider and one coach. School horse/pony and equipment provided for the lesson. Limited times available. Must be registered in our monthly program.

Please note that Riders interested in drop-in lessons must have taken prior lessons at Rosewood. Our Trial Lesson is the perfect way for new students to experience our program before committing to a full session. This one-time introductory lesson includes supervised grooming and tacking, followed by a mounted riding lesson with one of our experienced instructors. Riders will be introduced to basic safety, horse handling, and riding skills in a calm, supportive environment. Duration: Approximately 45 minutes (15 minutes grooming/tacking + 30 minutes riding dependent on previous experience).
Participating in the Lease Program guarantees you the same horse for each class, and gives you the option to jump above our height restriction of cross poles. Must be registered in our monthly program.
Clients must ensure they arrive at Rosewood at least 15 - 20 minutes prior to their lesson and are prepared to start their lesson at the assigned start time.

A minimum of 24-hours notice is required in order to cancel a lesson to receive a makeup class. Please email info@rosewoodhj.com to inform of any lesson dates that need to be canceled. If canceling with less than 24-hour notice, the lesson will not be rescheduled, and the full lesson price will be billed.
Lessons are held rain or shine but will be cancelled in the event of severe weather such as thunder/lightning, extreme heat or cold. Rosewood will follow local school closings; if schools are closed due to severe weather, then the barn will be closed as well.
